Dear friend,

You can submit your questions into the question box on Sunday, or submit them by email to Nancy.  Over time they will be answered on Sunday mornings, or they will be answered on this page.  Check back here for updates to this ongoing conversation.

Question:  What is Science of Mind's definition of "thy will"?

Rev. Nancy's answer:  "Thy will" means Spirit's selection for me; "my will" is my human ego's choice.  When I remember that I am not a separate being from Spirit--that I am partners in Beingness with Spirit --I realize that "thy will" is the best possible decision for my fulfillment.  Then there is no contest of wills; there is only the One Will for the highest good, and I get to experience it!

Since we are given free will, we can choose differently than that which Spirit has in Mind for us.  Then we get to experience that, which will not be as satisfying as Spirit's will for us, as it is, remember, for our highest good.

Rev. Joanne Biewald points us to Ralph Waldo Emerson for a poetic definition:  "Place yourself in the middle of the stream of Power and Wisdom which flows into you as Life.   Put yourself in the full center of that flood.  Then you are without effort impelled to Truth, to Right, and a Perfect Contentment....  There is a Guidance for each of us, and by lowly listening, we shall hear the right word."

An affirmation:  Today I listen to the Guidance of my heart, set my intention, speak my word in prayer, and let the Universe respond in magnificent ways.

Question: Are we a Christian church? Do we teach Christianity?

We teach New Thought, a philosophy that examines spiritual thought throughout the ages, synthesizing the universal elements of all the major religions, interpreting them in a “new” way or “different” way from the perspective of our modern-day, mostly Western, mostly Christian culture in the US. A simple definition is: New Thought is a positive, practical spirituality that recognizes the universal Truths found in all major faiths and traditions.
